WS Artistic Director to Attend Prestigious LCT Directors Lab

Water Series Artistic Director Suzanne Curtis-Campbell has been selected to participate in the Lincoln Center Theatre Directors Lab, a highly competitive three-week program for professional theatre directors, June 14-July 2, 2010.

The Lab is a developmental program for nurturing stage directors from around the country and around the world. Seventy directors from around the world have been chosen for the 2010 lab, a series of workshops, readings, rehearsals, investigations, roundtable discussions, and studio productions to provide directors with an intensive study of their craft while fostering collaborative relationships among a peer community of artists.

Campbell said, “This is an amazing program, where directors from around the world are given a chance to work together in a safe, meaningful environment. I look forward to discoveries and ideas I will bring home.”

Campbell has directed for many theatre companies in the area in addition to her work with The Water Series, including Theatre Knoxville Downtown, The WordPlayers, Erin Stage Company, Pellissippi State Community College Department of Theatre, First Night Knoxville, and the Oak Ridge Junior Playhouse.

The Lincoln Center Theatre, a Broadway theatre, was named "the pre-eminent theater in the country" by the New York Times.

Curtis-Campbell Directs PROMISES Reading for PSTCC

Artistic Director Suzanne Curtis Campbell will direct a staged reading of PROMISES, a new play by North Carolina playwright and Appalachia State University professor Joel Williams on Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Goins Building Auditorium on the PSTCC campus.

“It’s wonderful that the PSTCC Department of Theatre supports the development of new work and gives their students an opportunity to workshop a script with the playwright,” Campbell said.

“This play is an elegant exploration of love, loss, and secrets. Williams carries us through time and space in this beautiful—and deeply Southern—work that explores what it means to choose responsibility over passion and the implications of those decisions for generations.”
